Terms of Service.
Last updated: 2 October 2026 · Consent version: rustports-2026-10-02-v4
1. The service and contact
ModPorts is an independent community directory at modports.com, with its API at api.modports.com, for original Rust-language game projects, ports, conversions, and parodies. These terms cover use of that website and API, accounts, project listings, and community picks. ModPorts is not the game named Rust and is not affiliated with Nexus Mods, GitHub, the Rust project, or any game publisher or rights holder. Names and trademarks belong to their owners.
Contact the ModPorts operator at rights@rustports.com. See Contact and reporting for rights complaints, appeals, account help, and privacy requests. ModPorts does not currently sell memberships, accept game-file uploads, or provide game hosting through this service.
2. Agreement and related policies
Use the service only if you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, stop using it. Account access requires an affirmative checkbox accepting the current version; we record the version and acceptance time. Save a copy for your records. The Privacy notice explains data handling, Contact and reporting explains complaints and appeals, and Hosting and direct connections explains the service boundary. Those pages should be read with these terms. Licenses for separately published open-source code or toolkit resources govern those materials and are not replaced by these terms.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be legally able to agree to these terms and meet the minimum age and parental-consent requirements applicable where you live. Do not register if you cannot meet those requirements. We do not currently provide identity or age verification and do not permit age-restricted listings. If you act for an organization, you must have authority to bind it.
Sign-in uses GitHub. Keep your GitHub account secure, do not share your ModPorts session or impersonate anyone, and log out on shared devices. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. GitHub handles password recovery; ModPorts cannot recover your GitHub credentials. Account use after a material terms update requires renewed acceptance through sign-in. Withdrawal of a listing, sign-out, and privacy requests remain available without accepting new terms.
4. What you can submit
Only text project metadata, a public GitHub repository link, and optionally a creator-operated server address in hostname:port or [IPv6]:port form are accepted. Repository verification checks public GitHub metadata, not source files or downloads. A verified owner indicator identifies an account match, not legal clearance. Server addresses are stored as text; ModPorts never tests or opens a connection to them.
Submissions must be accurate, relevant, and non-confidential. Do not include secrets, passwords, personal contact details, private endpoints, or information you are not authorized to disclose. Repository and server details may become public after publication. Do not rely on moderation to identify sensitive information for you.
5. Creator rights and responsibilities
Each time you submit or edit a listing, you represent that you created the project or are authorized to represent its creator, have authority to publish the linked repository and any server address, and have the rights and permissions needed for the project and submitted metadata. Your description must not misrepresent ownership, licenses, affiliations, safety, or development status.
You are responsible for complying with applicable law, original-game agreements, repository and hosting terms, and relevant copyright, trademark, privacy, and other rights. A rewrite in Rust, reverse engineering, interoperability, parody, free distribution, or creator hosting does not automatically establish legal permission. Obtain appropriate advice and permissions; do not treat ModPorts review as a legal opinion.
6. Files, assets, and licenses
ModPorts accepts no executables, source archives, screenshots, artwork, models, textures, audio, maps, or other file uploads, even if you own them. Do not try to transmit files through metadata fields or unsupported endpoints. Do not submit listings that distribute pirated games, unauthorized copied or ripped game assets, leaked proprietary code, stolen material, or tools whose purpose is unlawful circumvention or infringement.
Document the source and license of your original code and any properly authorized dependencies or third-party materials in the linked project. A source-code license does not necessarily license its art, audio, trademarks, or original-game material. Linking does not transfer ownership or grant permission to distribute project files. Other users must follow the actual rights holder's licenses; these terms grant no license to a listed game.
7. Prohibited content and conduct
- Copyright or trademark infringement, piracy, deceptive affiliation, unauthorized disclosure of private information, or impersonation.
- Malware, credential theft, scams, concealed harmful downloads, spam, fraudulent listings, or misleading server addresses.
- Threats, stalking, harassment, hate, exploitation, terrorism-related material, child sexual abuse or grooming, intimate-image abuse, or other unlawful material.
- Pornographic or sexually explicit listings, graphic real-world violence, or content promoting self-harm, suicide, or dangerous abuse. ModPorts has no age-restricted content or age-assurance system.
- Unauthorized access, denial-of-service attacks, security probing without permission, bulk activity that disrupts the service, or attempts to bypass access controls, rate limits, moderation, or consent requirements.
- False or abusive reports, ban evasion, manipulation of community picks, or submitting confidential information or files.
These rules apply to the listing and to the project or destination it promotes. They do not authorize ModPorts to access private repositories or monitor creator servers. Ordinary links, authorized accessibility tools, and reuse of separately licensed open-source resources are not prohibited merely because they are automated; abusive harvesting, republishing private data, and disruptive automation are prohibited.
8. Creator-operated servers
Creators arrange and operate their own hosting, updates, access controls, backups, licenses, privacy practices, security, and player moderation. Publish only an address you control or are authorized to advertise. Keep listings accurate and withdraw them when no longer appropriate. Players connect using the game's own client, not through ModPorts. ModPorts does not provision, operate, secure, proxy, tunnel, relay, or monitor game servers or game traffic. Home hosting can expose a home IP address; consider dedicated hosting.
9. Your content and our limited permission
You and your licensors retain ownership. You grant ModPorts a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free permission to store, reproduce, format, and display the text metadata, repository URL, and server address you submit only as needed to operate, review, moderate, and present the directory. Hosting providers may process that information on our behalf for those purposes.
This is not an ownership transfer, an irrevocable advertising license, or permission to download, host, sell, or distribute game files or assets. Withdrawal ends public presentation through the directory; limited processing of backups, moderation history, consent, security, and legal records may continue as explained in the Privacy notice. We cannot erase copies independently saved by others or control third-party caches.
10. Moderation and enforcement
New submissions are visible only to their creator and authorized moderators until publication. Reviews move through submitted, under review, changes requested, approved, published, rejected, or removed states. Edits hide a listing until fresh review. Before approval and publication, moderators must review the public project page and rights claim and record their review attestation. ModPorts does not clone repositories or connect to servers.
We may request evidence or corrections, decline, hide, or remove a listing, and restrict use when reasonably necessary for safety, rights complaints, security, legal obligations, or a breach of these terms. Repeated substantiated infringement or serious abuse can result in loss of listing privileges; restrictions are currently administered by the operator, not by a promised automatic account-ban system. A displayed reason may be provided where appropriate; confidential evidence or legal restrictions may limit what we can disclose.
Human review is limited and can miss violations. Published, approved, or owner-verified status is not an endorsement, comprehensive file inspection, or guarantee of legality, security, quality, or availability. We do not claim a continuously staffed moderation team, hash scanning, automated illegal-content detection, or round-the-clock response.
11. Reports, rights complaints, and appeals
Report unlawful, infringing, unsafe, or misleading listings to rights@rustports.com using the rights-report checklist. Explain the affected work or right, the exact listing or link, your authority to report, your contact details, and supporting evidence. Do not send game files, passwords, or unlawful images. We may seek clarification, hide a listing during review, or contact the creator. A report is not automatically proof of infringement.
If you disagree with a decision or believe a report is mistaken, use the appeal process with relevant permissions and evidence. We consider the circumstances and may uphold, revise, or reverse a decision. There is no promise of automatic restoration, a fixed response time, or a statutory safe harbor. This process does not replace any legal notice or court remedy available under applicable law.
12. Privacy and disclosure
We process account identifiers, consent records, submissions, picks, sessions, reports, and moderation history as described in the Privacy notice. We discard GitHub access tokens after checking identity and request no private-repository or repository-write permissions for community sign-in. This is separate from the owner's website deployment credentials.
Where necessary and legally permitted, we may share relevant report details with the affected creator or limited records with service providers, professional advisers, or authorities. We do not promise to disclose an account holder's identity merely because someone asks. Reports can contain personal information; send only what is needed. Privacy and verified deletion requests remain available even if you stop using the service.
13. Third-party links and security
GitHub repositories, downloads obtained elsewhere, and creator-run servers are controlled by third parties under their own terms and privacy practices. We cannot guarantee their content, licenses, safety, or continued availability. Links and community picks are not endorsements. Review licenses and instructions, use appropriate security precautions, and never share authentication secrets with a creator.
No service is guaranteed to be free of bugs, vulnerabilities, or malicious third-party material. Report ModPorts security concerns privately through our security contact process. Do not access someone else's account, collect private records, or disrupt systems to demonstrate an issue.
14. Site material and linking
Rights in the ModPorts site, branding, and authored material belong to their respective owners, subject to any expressly published license. Contributor metadata and third-party projects remain subject to their own rights. You may link fairly to ModPorts without implying affiliation or approval. Do not misuse its name or reproduce material beyond the permissions granted by an applicable license or law. Nothing here withdraws permissions in the toolkit's or source code's separate licenses.
15. Availability and ending use
The directory is free and in early development. Features may change, be interrupted, or be withdrawn for operational, security, or legal reasons. Keep your own copies of project information; ModPorts is not your repository or backup provider. You may stop using the site, sign out, withdraw listings from your dashboard, or request verified account deletion. Withdrawal hides metadata but does not itself erase all records.
16. Changes to the service and terms
We publish the effective date and consent version on this page. For a material revision, existing account sessions cannot perform ordinary account actions until the current version is accepted through sign-in. Public browsing, sign-out, listing withdrawal, and privacy requests remain available. New acceptance does not retroactively waive accrued rights. If you disagree, stop ordinary account use and request withdrawal or deletion as appropriate. We do not promise email notices that the current service cannot send.
17. Information and warranties
Listings and resources are general information, not legal, security, financial, or professional advice. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service and listings are provided as available, without a guarantee of accuracy, completeness, uninterrupted availability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Obtain appropriate professional advice rather than relying on a listing or review. Mandatory statutory warranties and rights are not excluded.
18. Responsibility for loss
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. This includes fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence where protected by applicable law, and mandatory consumer or privacy rights.
Subject to those protections and only to the extent permitted by law, ModPorts is not responsible for losses caused by independently operated third-party repositories, downloads, or game servers, except where applicable law makes us responsible. For business use, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss and loss of profits, revenue, business opportunity, goodwill, anticipated savings, or business interruption to the extent lawful.
For consumers, any limitation applies only where fair and legally permitted and does not remove rights to remedies for our breach or wrongdoing. This provision is not a guarantee of immunity, does not excuse our own non-excludable obligations, and imposes no arbitrary compensation cap.
19. Claims caused by your submissions
You are responsible for your unlawful submissions and breaches of the creator obligations. If you act for a business, to the extent permitted by law you agree to indemnify the ModPorts operator for reasonable, documented third-party claim costs directly caused by your infringement, unauthorized disclosure, or material breach of those obligations. This does not cover our own wrongdoing or impose a consumer indemnity.
We will notify you of a claim where legally permitted, allow reasonable cooperation in its response, and not agree to an admission or settlement obligation binding you without your consent. Consumer responsibility is determined by applicable law, not an unlimited reimbursement obligation in these terms.
20. Disputes and mandatory rights
Contact rights@rustports.com to seek an informal resolution, but doing so is not a mandatory prerequisite to a lawful claim. Applicable law determines governing law and available courts until qualified review establishes appropriate operator-specific provisions. These terms do not impose mandatory arbitration, a class-action waiver, a foreign venue, or a shortened claim period. Mandatory consumer protections, lawful complaints to regulators, and court remedies remain available.
21. General provisions
If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply to the extent lawful. Delay in enforcing a provision does not waive it. A transfer of service operation must respect applicable law and existing user rights; it is not permission to sell private data for unrelated purposes. Terms intended to govern retained records, ownership, and existing disputes continue only as necessary and legally permitted after account use ends.
22. Legal-review limits
These are operating-policy terms for a small directory, not a legal opinion or a certification of compliance. The operator's full legal identity, required service address, applicable jurisdiction, notice handling, liability provisions, and privacy obligations still require qualified legal review. Do not interpret creator hosting or these terms as removing liability or establishing a registered copyright agent or statutory safe harbor.
